ZIGGY played guitar and Meonfest loved him for it.

So much so that a newly engaged couple were pulled on stage to huge applause as the evocative David Bowie anthem Heroes echoed around the natural amphitheatre enclosing the stage.

Despite heavy showers on Saturday during Meonfest, all the groups played, with the Bowie tribute band David Live closing the show with a slick set, including his signature hit, Ziggy Stardust.

Held on the Bereleigh Estate, this was the third festival, which was launched to raise money for East Meon Primary School. Joint organiser of the festival Philippa Tyrwhitt-Drake said: “The rain put some people off, but hundreds still came – there must have been well over 200 children alone.

“Thanks to the all-weather stage supplied by All the Kit from Wiltshire, all the bands played, which was great.

“We were very pleased with how it went.”
