THE MARTIN Read Foundation’s annual Festival of Contemporary Music resumed in person in the Martin Read Hall at Alton College on May 1.

A mixture of live, online and recorded music made the best use of available technology. It was a day packed with new music and premieres by college and foundation alumnus Ellen Drewe, Alison Willis, Simon Speare, Alan Bullard and Howard Skempton.

There was also music for the animated film Spring by the foundation’s young composer award-holders Naomi Dragomir, Daniel Jurado-Hoshino and Ella Laughton.

Ella said: “I compose because there is no other feeling like it.”

Supporting the day were choral expert David Gibson, pianists Alex Ling and Sarah Lewin and composer in residence Dan Keen. See www.martinreadfoundation.org
