ON TOP of 4,000 meals delivered to the elderly during the first lockdown, Age Concern Petersfield volunteers and catering staff at Churcher’s College cooked and delivered 125 Christmas dinners to home-alone pensioners – and eight meals to families struggling to make ends meet.
The turkeys were donated by Morgans Butchers on Lavant Street, and Churcher’s paid for the ingredients.
Age Concern Petersfield took the bookings and organised drivers, and Petersfield Lions funded goodie bags.
Age Concern spokesman Sheriden Rocher said: “Our 17 volunteer drivers had their Christmas hats on, queueing to pick up meals from the amazing Churcher’s catering team. Despite the rain, they were accompanied by festive entertainment from a Petersfield singer accompanied by a ukulele player.
“This was a fantastic joint venture with Churcher’s, Age Concern, Petersfield Area Churches Together, (PACT) and the Lions.
“It started when catering staff at Churcher’s wished to end the year on a high by providing a Christmas meal.
“It’s really so fantastic how everyone working together can make great things happen. There is such generosity in this town.”
