STEEP village hall was the venue for Petersfield’s first ever potato fair, organised by allotment holders.

Arranged by the Adhurst Estate Allotment Association, it was on Wednesday, January 10, and hosted by Pennard Plants, Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winners.

The fair featured more than 60 types of potato, and onion sets, rhubarb and asparagus corms, soft fruit and a multitude of seeds.

An allotment association spokesman said: “It was really well attended, with the village hall car park over-flowing and a real buzz within the hall.

“Visitors were greeted with an amazing array, which coupled with the expert knowledge of Chris Smith and Mike MiIlligan from Pennard gave gardeners a wonderful chance to kick start their growing season.

“Adhurst Estate Allotment Association were thrilled with the response, and are already looking at potential dates for next year’s event.”
