A CAMPAIGN to raise awareness of a life-limiting disease has struck a chord with bands who graced the stage at a major rock festival at Butser Hill.

Musicians and revellers who attended this year’s Butserfest showed their support for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and sufferers by posing for a ‘Strawfie’.

Participants are challenged to breathe through a narrow straw for 60 seconds to mimic the breathing difficulties that people with CF experience.

They follow it up by taking a ‘straw-breathing selfie’ and posting the picture online with a comment about the experience and making a £3 donation via a text message. Forever in Depths, Flashfires and Prolong the Agony were among the acts appearing at this year’s Butserfest that accepted the Strawfie challenge as well as local bands Saint (The) Sinner and Networks.

The social media campaign was launched at last year’s Butserfest when dozens of revellers took Strawfies as the campaign’s song – Breathe With Me by Crawley singer and CF sufferer annaJo – was aired from the main stage.

Anyone can help by taking a Strawfie and texting BWCF64 £3, or another amount, to 70070.
