TODAY (Friday) was a home win for Petersfield-based Portsmouth fans, as players travelled to the town for the launch of booklets reliving the playing history of the football club.

Compiled by Pompey fan Roger Holmes, each of the 89 booklets covers one season.

Roger said: “It’s been a pleasure to put these booklets together.

“I’ve been committed to it for the last two years and I was determined to finish.

“I made my own reports as a kid and I wanted to be a football reporter.

“I’ve always been interested in football and Pompey is in my blood.

“My first game was against Carlisle United in 1965 and my first memory is John Milkins breaking his arm against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1967.

“Former players Alan Knight, Ray Crawford, Pat Neil and Mike Travers all came along today.

“Today has gone well and the people who have come along have all been very good.”

The launch was held in The Petersfield Bookshop in Chapel Street.

Pompey fan John Westwood runs The Petersfield Bookshop and was full of praise for Roger’s work.

John said: “What Roger has done is fantastic.

“It is a brilliant idea to cover every season in little booklets, as people can buy the booklet of their favourite year.

“The work that Roger does and the loyalty he has to the club is fantastic.

“It is people like Roger who make the club special.

“His love for the club gets passed on to the next generation.”
