IT’S NOT uncommon to see a celebrity wandering the streets of Petersfield with Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Mark Owen being spotted in recent years.
But few have been as approachable as Tigs the cat, who has become ‘furry’ popular with residents and businesses alike in the town centre.
Owned by St Peter’s Road resident Diane Botterill, the “lovely, flurry and very friendly” Tigs has grown to be a local celebrity, thanks to his friendly approach towards people.
After numerous pictures of his travels around the town centre were posted on Facebook, Diane decided to set up a ‘Tigs of Petersfield’ group, which now boasts more than 520 members.

“Personally, I’ve made lots of friends through my lovely cat. I’ve only lived in Petersfield since the end of May but the response to his page has been amazing.”
Whether it’s catching a quick nap in Rowswells, sipping on milk in Costa or enjoying pizza in Pizza Express, the camel and white-coloured male has a big purr-sonality and makes friends wherever he goes.
“My son has fallen madly in love with Tigs as he often visits us here in the shop,” said Cate Rolison of Butterflies Lingerie in Pages Court. “We even had him in the fitting room looking at himself in the mirror. He’s a gentleman.”
The four-legged celebrity even enjoys the Petersfield nightlife, although it’s unclear whether he’s had a late night kebab from the van in The Square.
“He was in here on Saturday night a few weeks ago,” said Kieran Brown, barman at The George, adding: “We wanted to adopt him.”
