WHAT happens when forty young imaginations get whirring on a festive show?
Audiences at Bedales are about to find out, with the school’s winter production to grace the Olivier Theatre stage from December 8 to 10.
Sound of the Night Feather has been devised from scratch since the start of the autumn term, with just a germ of an idea and an empty stage to draw upon.
But the drama group has risen to this nerve-racking challenge with aplomb and come up with characters, narratives, costumes, effects, original music, choreography - and puppetry.
They started with the idea of loneliness and the temptation to retreat into a beautiful imagined world and all that implied. Whether the retreat could be countered. Whether it would become normality. Whether the power of a story could be redemptive.
The characters and narratives were constructed with the help of Phil Tattersall-King; musicians have come up with an atmospheric soundtrack with Neil Hornsby; Joanne Greenwood has led a design team and technical crew; and Liz Richards lent her expertise in dance, bringing the story to life on stage.
Free tickets for the family show are available for the three performances starting at 7.30pm. These are available from the box office on [email protected] or call 01730 711511, or at One Tree Books, Lavant Street, Petersfield. Also visit www.bedales.org.uk
