A FARM in Buriton is to host a family fun day which will raise money for a new playground in the village.
Bolinge Hill Farm will host the Buriton Barbecue and Family Fun on the Farm event which takes place this Sunday from noon.
The event is being organised by the playground committee to help raise money towards a new playground in Buriton.
Karen White, a parish councillor and chairman of the playground committee, said: “It’s to raise money for a new playground in Buriton – the one we have at the moment in the village is currently tired and old.
“Three years ago the parish council started looking around at new equipment.
“We have a committee set up to fundraise which we have been doing.”
So far, the committee has raised around £36,000 but it needs around £70,000 in total to buy the playground equipment required.
Karen added: “We want to expand the playground for all ages.
“It only goes up to seven years at the moment.
“It’s really important that children have an outdoor space that’s safe and has lots of activities.
“The playground is right by the school so the children like to go out into the playground and run around, which is important for them to let off steam.
“But at the moment, there’s not a lot in there for the older kids.”
A public consultation will be held later down the line to enable members of the community, including children, to have their say on what they would like to see at the playground site.
Meanwhile, Karen said the fun day has a lot to entertain children and adults of all ages.
“It’s going to be very traditional,” she said.
“It was very popular last year so we thought we would give it a go again this year.
“We have lots of traditional stalls.
“It’s a good family fun day. It’s nice to do something that the family can come to for all ages,” she added.
The event will include live music, refreshments, a bouncy castle, tombola and a lucky dip.
There will also be a wheelbarrow race, sack races and an egg and spoon race.
Visitors to the event will also have a chance to have a ride in a tractor and take a look at all the farm machines.
