A PETERSFIELD charity that helps home Syrian refugees here is hosting it’s second open to all fundraising art sale.

The sale last year saw art worth more than £30,000 sold, of which £10,000 went to the Rural Refugee Network (RRN).

The charity jointly founded Karen Wallace of Buriton, and Julia Thistleton-Smith of Bordean House at Langrish finds homes for Syrian refuges moving here and supports them one they have arrived.

The art sale will see art work on sale by more than 50 artists; the pieces will be in a range of styles, but with an emphasis on contemporary.

A percentage of the sale price of each piece sold will be donated to the charity by the artists, who include those with international and national reputations, with many from the South East, including East Hampshire.

RRN spokesman Genevieve Raeburn said: “For auction at the sale is a beautiful hand made quilt that some of our settled refugees made.

“They have set up a local sewing group, and the quilt is called ‘Hope,’ and it has bright colours emerging from a dark background, and symbolises the hope the refugees have of a better future.”
