THIS Christmas Waitrose Petersfield reached the milestone figure of £100,000 donated to local charities through its Community Matters fundraising scheme.

Over the years, Waitrose in Rams walk has supported local causes such as Age Concern Petersfield.

This Christmas, the branch has chosen PACT Christmas Lunch to benefit from the scheme.

Waitrose Petersfield branch manager Andrew Compton said: “The green token might seem like a small gesture for our customers but they’ve helped us give £100,000 to hundreds of fantastic causes in the local area.

“The Community Matters scheme is a great way for us to get involved with the community, supporting causes which are important to both our employees and our customers and we’re really pleased to have reached this milestone figure.”

Community Matters was launched in 2008 - every month each Waitrose shop donates £1,000 to three local good causes (£500 in Little Waitrose shops).
