JUST a week after Hawkley’s gardeners contributed to the church’s flower festival, they came up trumps again.

Twenty-five members of Empshott and Hawkley Horticultural Society contributed to its summer show, although a few of the classes were without entries and the flower arrangement classes were not contested.

Show secretary Stella Savage said: “Entries were somewhat down this year due to the Hawkley Church flower festival having taken place the previous weekend.

“Nevertheless, the judges complimented the entrants on the quality of their produce and flowers, despite the dreadful weather the day before the show.”

Among the trophy winners, Mary Crittenden was awarded the Robert Howe Cup for best in show for her vases of mixed cut flowers.

The next event for members is on Tuesday, August 18, from 6pm to 8pm, when there will be a return visit to Lower Green Farm.
