Pupils and staff at Ditcham Park School are celebrating excellent GCSE results – 49 per cent of results were grades 9 to 7 and 99.9 per cent grades 9 to 4.

As GCSE exams were cancelled this year because of the disruption to teaching and learning caused by the pandemic, exam grades were awarded by teachers based on assessed work.

Throughout the spring and summer Term the Form 5 (Year 11) students completed a rigorous programme of internal assessments and examinations.

Through this process students were able to demonstrate their academic skills and talents while building a comprehensive portfolio of evidence.

Thanks to this sustained effort, and supported by the school’s hard-working staff who were able to offer a full programme of online teaching throughout the lockdown periods, Ditcham Park School can be confident the grades achieved were justified, fair and valid.

Ditcham headmaster Graham Spawforth said: “Congratulations to our students and staff for their efforts in achieving these excellent results which are fully deserved – we are enormously proud of all our pupils.

“It is pleasing that our students have obtained grades which reflect their hard work and talents despite the pandemic’s impact on the exam process which has been stressful for our students and teachers.

“I know all our staff and governors join me in wishing our pupils every success in their future studies and careers.”
