BATS, bugs, backpacks and more are all rolled into one brilliant package of summer holiday fun, to suit all budgets, at Gilbert White’s House at Selborne.

Every Tuesday in August is a Wild Art Day, a free drop-in activity time suitable for all ages.

Families can take a trail with a backpack filled with the tools needed to take a close look at nature. Older children may enjoy a Geocaching trail with GPS devices following clues around the gardens.

On Wednesdays, the museum is holding bookable nature sessions, starting on August 2 with a Bushcraft Day. On August 9 there is a Sensory Wellie Walk, ideal for younger children.

It is all about bats on August 15 and 16, with a family evening bat walk on the Tuesday, with bat detectors used to find the many species living at Selborne. On the Wednesday, a walk aimed at teenagers will feature bat detecting too, but also a campfire with marshmallow roasting.

During the day on August 16, families can build bat boxes and take part in other bat-themed crafts.

In the final weeks of the holiday, young nature lovers can join a Butterfly Walk on August 23 and take part in pond dipping on August 30.

Prices start at £3 per activity.
