Fix a date in your diary because the doors to a handy new café will open this weekend in Petersfield.
It’s not just hot drinks and snacks that will be served up from 1.30pm this Saturday at the Repair Café at the Avenue Pavilion.
It’s a free meeting place where the onus is on repairing things together. Visitors will find tools, materials, skilled volunteers and everything else needed to repair clothes, electrical appliances, crockery, toys and more.
The scheme by Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) has been in the pipeline for a few months with the idea generating a “great deal of enthusiasm” at the group’s recent Volunteers Evening.
Food and drink will be served by the Petersfield Women’s Institute at the café, which will operate on the last Saturday of each month. The café is one of nearly 30 in Hampshire and part of a growing three Rs movement that focuses on re-use, repair and recycling.
“It’s simple, really, you take along your broken items from home and together with the specialists, you can start making repairs – it’s an ongoing learning process,” said a spokesperson for PeCAN.
“And if you’ve got nothing to repair, you can lend a hand with someone else’s repair job or simply find out more about local action for sustainability and spend time with like-minded people.”
The café has received funding from the Community Climate Action Fund at EHDC while the Petersfield WI, Petersfield Men’s Shed, volunteers and existing repair cafes have all provided guidance and support.
There’s another day to circle on the calendar as PeCAN and Petersfield Town Council have confirmed the 2026 EcoFair will take place on The Heath from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, July 12. Expect a range of commercial and charity stalls, music, refreshments and children’s activities.
