NEW CADET units in 31 state schools, including at The Petersfield School (TPS) have been approved by Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon, who also gave them the go ahead to expand.
He said: “I want more young people from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to be cadets.
“Cadets help instil values of discipline and loyalty.
“They develop leadership skills and confidence.”
The Cranford Road school launched its Combined Cadet Force (CCF) last month.
And the cadets have just returned from their first overnight sortie at a training camp in Surrey.
TPS headteacher Mark Marande said: “The competition for places was fierce in the first year, but we hope to expand numbers next year.
“This is another example of the ways we offer our students an unrivalled experience here at TPS.”
