TWO enthusiastic golfers swapped their clubs for ’chutes to take part in sky dive to raise to raise money for charity.
Trevor Gill from Stroud near Petersfield and Sue Andrews from Alton are both members of Worldham Golf Club near Alton; Trevor is a former chairman of the club.
The two completed their 15,000ft sky dive to raise funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
They did their jump at Old Sarum near Salisbury on Friday, September 18 and have so far raised more than £2,000 for the air ambulance service, which is their club captains’ charity for this year.
The day of adventure and personal challenge started with training from the jump team at Go SkyDive
Trevor said: “We watched three other planeloads of charity and fun parachute jumpers go up before it was our turn.
“The professionalism of the Go SkyDive team, and watching how others landed, certainly built our confidence. It was a fantastic opportunity to do something for a good cause and I would recommend it for anyone who has the slightest sense of adventure.
“The moment of leaving the aircraft is indescribable, not scary but maybe a little unsettling! Would I do it again? Yes!”
And Sue was just as excited: “I was originally only going to go from 10,000ft but going higher was a good choice – any lower and it would have been over too quickly. The Air Ambulance is a very worthy cause and none of us knows when we might need their services.”
The pair, strapped to their Go SkyDive instructors for tandem jumps, had free fall for around a minute but Sue added it did seem “a very long time. I can’t say I was scared or apprehensive because I wasn’t. But it’s only now I am beginning to realise what I actually did!”
