PETERSFIELD Museum has finally bought the town's police station, at a cost of £450,000.

After a five-year hunt for premises, museum trustees are delighted to have exchanged contracts on the station in front of the museum in St Peter's Road.

This will allow them to realise ambitious plans for a museum three times the size of the current facility – giving the town a huge tourism boost.

"It's been a long process but you can't make plans unless you have the building," said trustee chairman Vaughan Clarke.

Hopes are now pinned on a Heritage Lottery Fund grant with a bid going in in September....
