THE sun shone on Milland’s first ever Green Fair, on the village recreation ground.

Hosted by Milland Parish Council and Eco Rother Action, some 600 people, many of them young families, enjoyed sun, wall-to-wall music and touring the 25 stalls at the fair last Sunday.

Exhibitors and action groups demonstrated innovative ways to reduce carbon footprint and help the environment; recycling household and electronic products, getting rid of plastics and toxic substances , changing to fossil-free energy.

One revealed how to make shopping bags out of T-shirts, without sewing a stitch, known as Morsbags.

Straw bales provided seating for listening to the speakers’ panel or watching the performers, including the Petersfield Jazz Band Workshop, Rosie and Rowan Folk Duo, The Encore Choirs and Hollycombe School’s choir.

Milland were lucky to have The Bright New Futures Road Show attend, featuring Clive the Poet and his mobile woodland theatre.

A path of footprints to a healing planet had a commitment written on each print.

One read: “Engage in more climate conversations.”

The wishing tree of paper leaves produced one wish, probably echoed by many: “I wish my great-grandchildren are proud of what we all achieve in the next few years.”
