People will be in good spirits this weekend as an ancient tradition will be upheld at an orchard in Sheet.

A Wassail event will be held at Petersfield Community Garden this Saturday, January 25, with dancing, music and merriment at the site off Waterworks Road.

Wassailing typically involves the early year blessing of apple trees to promote a good harvest and a ceremony that includes singing, dancing and the lighting of a fire.

And that’s exactly what will happen between 2pm and 3pm this Saturday in the community orchard with highlights including a dance by Mafficking Border Morris and a bonfire lighting.

The Petersfield Community Choir will also sing at the free event while refreshments will also be available.
