HOLLYCOMBE Working Steam Museum will be open for the last time this year on Saturday evening when it stages its Hallowe’en Fairground at Night event.

“It is worthwhile coming that little bit early to enjoy the autumn colours that are developing in the gardens,” said Hollycombe trustee Brian Gooding.

“A brisk walk followed by warming refreshments in the café is a great precursor to the fun of the fairground.

“There is always a real buzz at Hallowe’en Fairground at Night – it’s a last chance for everyone to enjoy the rides, and for our volunteers to say thank you to everyone who has supported us this year.”

Kevin Byrne, who operates the Bioscope, Hollycombe’s ‘travelling cinema’, has been delighted with visitors who have attended the evening openings so far in September and October.

Kevin said: “They have created a wonderful atmosphere, very friendly and appreciative. It’s great when we play to full houses as we did this last Saturday.”

Visitors to Hollycombe will be able to enjoy the world’s oldest white-knuckle ride, the ‘Razzle Dazzle’, as well as the ‘Chair-O-Planes’, Golden Gallopers, Big Wheel and Steam Boat, plus juvenile Carousel and Austin Cars.

Saturday night comes just too early for Hollycombe’s Haunted House to re-open though following extensive restoration.

“The Orton and Spooner Haunted House has re-manifested in the fairground, but we won’t now be opening it until Easter 2017,” said Brian.

Hollycombe has teamed up with Wheel Drive and the East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership to offer a free shuttle bus service between Liphook Railway Station, Liphook Sainsbury’s and Hollycombe on Saturday.

Gates open at 6pm with rides from 7-10pm. Admission is £16 for adults, £14 for seniors or £12 for children.
