HAMPSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is urging people planning their own firework displays to heed safety advice offered by the service.
Firefighter Beth Medway said: “With Hallowe’en and fireworks displays marking celebrations up till the New Year, it’s really important we engage with our community to hopefully prevent incidents.
“Bonfire night is a much loved event and Hampshire is fortunate to hold several large scale bonfire and fireworks displays every year, and we would always advise leaving the responsibility to the professionals and attending a public display.
“But if you do choose to hold your own bonfire or fireworks display, we urge you to follow our advice to ensure a safe and successful event.
“For example, not every garden will have adequate space to hold a bonfire.
“And a bonfire near a shed, fencing or overhead cable, could easily and quickly spread to your property or that of a neighbour.”
