THERE was drama in Liss Forest on Saturday when an unexploded hand grenade was found in Newfield Road.

John Neilan found the explosive behind his property in woodland that he owns, and about 20 homes had to be evacuated to allow bomb disposal experts to destroy the ordnance.

John said: "I was digging up a tree stump and I dug the tree stump up OK and as I was raking the soil back into the hole I suddenly realised there was a hand grenade lying in the ground.

"It was pretty rusty and it must have been quite close to the surface because I didn't dig very deep....
