CRANFORD Road Residents' Association is once again selling Remembrance Sunday poppies from a newly refurbished phone box.

For the past two years association members have raised more than £400 for British Legion Poppy Appeal by selling knitted and crocheted poppies from the phone box on Borough Grove.

But this year as poppies were being made in readiness to sell and to appropriately decorate the box, owned by the association, it was vandalised and a window smashed.

Cranford Estate Residents' Association (CERA) chairman Jeanette Nunn said: “A pane of glass was broken, but also the poor telephone box was in need of a good old paint job and overhaul.

“So the thanks to East Hampshire district councillor Ben Bentley, who gave us a grant, and a painter called David Ogle, it was repaired and repainted.

“Sylvia Hawkes has decorated it with the poppies that she and I have made, and they are ready for selling.”

Those who would like to buy a poppy are asked to contact Jeanette on 01730 300413 or by calling at 32 Cranford Road.
