FLOWERS and children seemed to be lacking in numbers at the 70th running of a spring show in Harting.
Harting Horticultural Society’s annual event, held in the Community Hall off Tipper Lane on March 24, was effected by the recent snow and ice, which brought a fall in the number of flower entries this year.
Event organisers have also called on parents to encourage their children to enter the show in the future.
Event spokeswoman Vivien de Beer said: “Unsurprisingly with the recent weather, the exhibits of flowers were down this year but nevertheless what there was made a colourful display.
“The cookery and photographic sections had an increase in numbers and Harting has numerous wonderful cooks.
“Sadly there were no exhibits in the eight to 16-year-old classes and just two children exhibited in the under sevens classes.
“It is a great shame parents don’t encourage their children to exhibit as they have so much fun doing it with the possibility of a small cash prize.”
