HARTING Church of England School pupils have sent more than 200 shoeboxes filled with goodies across the world to help less fortunate children enjoy Christmas.
The pupils and their families spent several weeks gathering toys and other small items, in the hope that the filled boxes will delight the children who open them.
To encourage contributions, several Year 6 pupils spent their break times preparing presentations on the shoe box project.
They then gave their presentations at assemblies.
The youngsters also spent time sorting donated toys and helping pack them.
And pupils at the school in Tipper Lane helped ‘chain’ the 200-plus boxes to a van to start their journey.
Harting headteacher Fiona Mullett said: “They showed such maturity and enjoyed taking on this responsibility.
“It ended up as such a slick operation with reception children supported by their Year 6 ‘Buddies’ and a band of parents helping too.
“The school has such a family feel, even though the children come from surrounding villages, Petersfield and beyond.
“This event demonstrated the generosity of the school community.”
