QUALITY time with dad is guaranteed as our National Trust properties and other venues offer mini adventurers for Father’s Day on Sunday, June 19.

Acres of beech woodland at Hinton Ampner near Alresford provide plenty of opportunities for den building. And what could be better for father son bonding that creating a secret hideaway from foraged materials?

Search for wildlife tracks too, and go on the hunt for bugs – there are all sorts of mini beasts under fallen branches.

The lawns overlooking the South Downs are a perfect retreat for relaxation, and for making squeaky grass ‘trumpets’ and daisy chains.

Treat dad to one of Hinton’s tea-room’s home-made treats, often made from produce from the kitchen garden. Or buy him a local beer or ale, from Flack Manor Bowmans and Tuts Clump breweries.

Another great dad get-away destination is Uppark, near South Harting, where the panoramic views across the downs can be savoured, and vintage jazz from the Harry Strutters Jazz Trio enjoyed, from noon to 3pm.

Take a picnic and buy beverages from the beer tent. There’s beer tasting in the café too, courtesy of local brewers, Ballards.

For something a little more elegant to sip, Uppark has sourced a special Hampshire gin called Silverback, which is produced in small batches, and slips down nicely teamed with cardamom tonic water.

There are games including giant chess and bat and ball to try to beat dad at too.

In the house, an exhibition by Japanese artist Takumasa Ono features a selection of watercolours, screen prints and Sumi-e, a traditional form of Japanese brushwork. This runs until June 26, 11am to 4pm.

If your dad would prefer inspiration of the culinary sort, head with him to Winchester City Mill, where there are Father’s Day themed baking demonstrations.

The mill’s own stoneground flour is used to make seasonal treats, and dad gets to taste the results and take recipe cards home.

On June 19, the mill’s shop is selling special Father’s Day hampers filled with goodies including locally-sourced food and drink. The baking demos are from 11am to 3pm and the mill is open 10am to 5pm.
