ONE OF the founding stalwarts of Headley Sports Association and its efforts to improve village sporting facilities over the past 25 years has retired.

Richard Hardman was visibly moved when the chairman, Charles Kemp, presented him with a photograph of the Margery Wheatley Pavilion at the association’s annual meeting.

After his playing days were over Richard maintained a keen interest in cricket and all things sport in Headley. He played an influential part in the conception and planning leading to the pavilion’s construction in 1996. He was an independent trustee before becoming vice chairman, then chairman, of the association which links six village sports clubs.
