THE RIVERSIDE Surgery in Liss is set to become busier.
Woolmer Surgery in Bordon, which is a branch of the Riverside Practice at Liss, will see its last patients on September 30 and close its doors for the final time at the end of this month.
Woolmer Surgery has been operating on reduced opening hours for most of the year because of problems over recruitment.
Two GPs left within five months and attempts to replace them proved unsuccessful – reflecting a problem being experienced in other parts of the country.
Patients have been aware that the surgery would close at some time since last April, but they are now being informed of the date.
Practice Partner Dr Charles Dawson, a GP in Bordon and Liss for 16 years, said a private day nursery called Tootsies would be moving into the building.
Dr Dawson said: “I am pleased that a business which will serve the community is taking over the building rather than it remain empty or developed for housing.
“Nonetheless it still remains that it will be incredibly hard for me to leave after 16 years.
“I would like to thank all my patients for your patience and understanding over these last few months and if you require any help, guidance or are unsure about anything, please contact us so that we may assist you.”
Earlier this year, the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) wrote to all Woolmer patients when it was known the surgery would have to close.
There have also been notices on the practice and NHS Choices websites.
While a number of patients have decided to stay with the practice and travel to Liss, others have instead moved to the two other GP practices in Bordon.
The closure has been approved by NHS South Eastern Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group’s Primary Care Commissioning Committee.
