A TOTAL of 53 people defied the wind and rain of Storm Dennis to check their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes on February 15.

Town Mayor Cllr Lesley Farrow and East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds both took part in an awareness event at Winton House in Petersfield run by Petersfield Lions and Diabetes UK. It was a chance for people to better understand the risks and obtain advice on making changes to reduce them.

Organiser Stephen Walters, from Petersfield Lions, said: “I’m sure the weather had a big impact on our numbers so we are hoping to run another event in the summer for all those not wanting to venture out on the day.

“Early diagnosis followed by treatment is vital to the long term health of the patient and if we can help spread the word and help raise awareness of the condition we have achieved our aims.”
