FREE mouth cancer checks are being offered this month by a Petersfield dental practice.

November is Mouth Cancer Action Month, a national campaign to help raise awareness of oral cancer and prevention of the disease.

And Sixty Six Dental at 66 Station Road is taking the opportunity to give a check to anyone who wants one. Existing patients already receive this at every check up.

If mouth cancer is detected early enough there is a 90 per cent chance it can be eliminated. This is why it is vital to visit your dentist regularly, the dentists at Sixty Six Dental say.

Mouth cancer was extremely serious and affected around 7,000 people each year in the UK – nearly 18 every day.

Over the last decade, cases of mouth cancer had increased by up to a third and more than 2,000 people lost their life to the disease annually, more than the number of deaths caused by road traffic accidents.

It was most common in the over 70s and the chances were increased with regular and excessive drinking and smoking.

You can get involved with Mouth Cancer Action Month by taking part in the #bluelipselfie campaign as the team at Sixty Six did (pictured).
