An annual event which offers a wealth of support and information for East Hampshire residents affected by dementia returns to Petersfield later this month.
The East Hampshire Dementia Festival taking place at Churcher’s College on Friday (October 31) could be a lifeline for people affected by the condition.
The event inspired by the late Jeff Williams of the Petersfield Royal British Legion will feature more than 20 stalls with each providing information and support for people living with dementia, their families and carers.
The festival – organised by Dementia Friendly Petersfield and supported by East Hampshire District Council – has grown in size and importance since its first in 2019.
It offers the chance for people living affected by dementia to access information and support from a wide range of organisations all under one roof.
“This year there are 25 organisations taking part, including the Alzheimer’s Society, Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the Older Person’s Mental Health Team,” said Audrey Morton and Julie Butler.

“There will also be a presentation by Dr Boothby at 11am and some entertainment from the Dementia Choir and singer Archie McKeown.”
The event is free to attend and will take place in The Auditorium of the Ramshill school from 10am to 1pm, with plenty of free parking available.
Much-loved Petersfield town centre organisation The Winton House Centre will also run a café on the day while representatives from the local dementia friendly groups will also be attending and helping out.
The pair added: “There is a real community feel to this event that was instigated by the late Jeff Williams.
“He was a well-known local figure who worked tirelessly to improve awareness and improve the perception of what it was like to live with dementia.”
