PETERSFIELD Museum needs help to track down this section of a toll board.

In 1711 the road from Sheet to Portsmouth through Petersfield along what is now College Street and Dragon Street was a turnpike.

This meant people paid a levy or toll to use the road and the money collected was spent on maintaining it.

Levies were paid at a toll booth by Sheet Bridge where a large sign similar to the section in the picture was displayed.

The origins of this section are unknown but its last known whereabouts was in Petersfield.

As it is a good representation of what was displayed the museum is keen to find it and learn more about it.

Anyone with information should send an email to [email protected] or call the museum on 01730 262601.
