RESIDENTS’ views on policing and how much of their council tax should be spent on the service are being sought in a consultation closing on January 18.

This will provide information for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight before both the policing budget is set and the precept which residents pay from their council tax.

Simon Hayes is asking whether the precept should be increased. He is also appealing for feedback on how to prioritise police resources and how people contact and communicate with the police.

“Policing is important to us all, whether we live in a rural or urban community,” he said. “Historical budget cuts have reduced policing budgets significantly, despite the considerable savings we have made. Although I was pleased to hear our budgets will not be cut further, our funding is still greatly reduced.”
