A FUN make and bake started by a Steep mother has become a popular tradition. When Imogen Welch (20), her sister Katherine (18) and their brother, Jonathan, were young, they enjoyed making small gingerbread houses during the school holidays. And as they got older the fun afternoon, turned into two or three days of making and baking as their gingerbread confections got bigger and more decorative. This year in their one week university and school festive break the girls, with Jonathan’s girlfriend, Maria Overy (21), made a replica of All Saints church, Steep. Mum Caroline said: “Making a gingerbread house has become an annual tradition, and they have become quite complicated, I stay out of the way now.” Steep vicar the Rev John Owen said: “It’s an incredible feat.” The cake’s fate was to be enjoyed by Katherine’s friends at Bedales School in Steep, near Petersfield.
