A GARDENER has reaped the rewards for months of hard work by walking away from a West Meon show with a haul of trophies.

Richard Beales was the big winner when the West Meon Garden Club held its summer show at the weekend.

The villager won seven trophies and was presented with a certificate and a diploma.

Sara Gedye, Yvonne Noble, Robert Miles, Peter Short, Rosie Kettle, Lorien Boyes and Patrick Gedye also collected some silverware during the popular event.

Although the number of overall entries was down from 251 to 236, this year’s show was another successful one with high standards in the vegetable, flower and fruit classes.

The event attracted 43 visitors while an innovation was the transformation of the children’s section into a fun section with three age groups – up to nine years of age, 10-15 and 16 plus.

One of the most popular classes was the mini scarecrow competition which attracted some impressive entries from all age groups.
