DRIVERS are advised that the A3 Hindhead tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight on Thursday, October 29, from 10pm-6am.Both bores will be closed to allow a full scale training exercise for the tunnel operators and emergency services. This is a legal requirement that a full scale exercise is carried out every four years.Ollie Brown from the Highways England emergency planning team said:“Thankfully major incidents inside a tunnel are a rare occurrence; however it’s vital that both our teams and the emergency services are fully prepared. We have carefully planned this closure to take place overnight, when traffic flows are at their lowest.”The tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 5am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A31 and A325.The aim of the exercise is to test the response of the emergency services dealing with a road traffic collision and fire inside the tunnel.Motorists will need to allow extra 45 minutes for journeys.here will also be night time routine maintenance closures between
