A BOOK about how teachers can deal with stress could provide an essential beach read as the summer holidays start.

Written by a former English teacher at The Petersfield School (TPS), the #Teacher5ADay Journal and Handbook is a practical guide to dealing with pressures in and out of the classroom.

Author Naomi Ward says it was written in response to teachers’ requests for support with stress. This followed a successful Twitter campaign #Teacher5ADay started up in 2014.

Naomi said: “The number of teachers leaving the profession is growing, with 77 per cent of teachers reporting that workplace stress levels are one of the key reasons behind this.

“The #Teacher5ADay Journal and Handbook is full of authentic, honest information from the teaching community. The hope is that by sharing helpful tips on well-being and work-life balance we can prevent more teachers from leaving a profession they love.”

Naomi, who taught at TPS for two years from 2012 and is now an education consultant, is sending out the books all over the country, including to ex-colleagues in Petersfield. The 5ADay idea asks teachers to focus on five areas daily to stop them feeling overwhelmed.
