A South of Butser woman is on the campaign trail with a place in the Britain’s Got Talent final at stake.

Gwen Woodruffe and the Hawkstone Farmers Choir will perform in the live semi-finals of the hit ITV show this Saturday, May 23.

Progress would put the golden buzzer-winning act within grasp of a £250,000 prize and the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

And there’s a quarter of a million reasons why they want to plough ahead in the competition – as members will donate the money to rural mental health charities if they win the overall title on May 30.

Gwen is a farmer’s wife from Horndean who is heavily involved with Petersfield Young Farmers and frequently takes part in bucolic events, from the annual dung run to the RMW Christmas Tractor Run.

“We’re singing to raise awareness of the loneliness and isolation which affects farmers around the country,” said Gwen, who “couldn’t believe it” when judge Amanda Holden pressed the golden buzzer.

“We would love to make it to the finals. Just imagine if we won and got to sing for King Charles – I am sure he would really enjoy a choir of singing farmers.

She added: “My head is all over the place as it’s all becoming very real.

“As for the show, all I can say is that we are doing a song by a British band, which is one people will know.”

Gwen has urged readers to show their support by registering for five free votes at www.itv.com/vote as there is only about ten minutes on the evening to vote.

A mobile phone number is required but users can use all five on the same act, while voters can even get Tesco Clubcard points for taking part.
