Ramsdean charity Hounds for Heroes has received a cheque for £2,941.32 raised during 2018–19 by the members of Winchester Ladies Circle.
Hounds for Heroes provides assistance dogs for disabled men and women who served in the armed forces or the emergency services.
Winchester Ladies Circle worked closely with the charity to generate both money and awareness through volunteering and fundraising events.
This included baking canine treats for sale at community events and running a stall at Winchester Christmas Market.
The women organised a charity dog walk, supported by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, in April last year along the River Itchen to Shawford.
As well as the walk there were also sponsored stalls, talks, a cake sale and more treats for dogs.
Winchester Ladies Circle also supported the Round Table with the annual Winchester Bonfire and Fireworks, which provided a significant donation to Hounds for Heroes, and donated money collected at social events, such as pub quiz winnings.
Past chairwoman Vicky Payne, who picked the charity for the women to support in 2018–19, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work so closely with Hounds for Heroes this year.
“I am delighted we were able to raise so much money for them.”
Hounds for Heroes founder and vice-chairman Allen Parton said: “To have the Winchester Ladies Circle members stand shoulder to shoulder with us has been humbling.
“The very clear message being sent out to over 900,000 injured, disabled and traumatised services personnel in the country today is that folk genuinely care.
“This truly is such a powerful message to hear.”
