HUNDREDS of people attended an open gardens event at Ropley.

More than 300 people visited to look at the gardens, admire the church, enjoy the teas and visit the Pimm’s tent.

Chairman of The Friends of St Peter’s Church Alison Wood said the event was a huge success.

“The weather was good which was such a relief after the storms earlier in the week and it encouraged people to come early,” she said.

“We had some really positive feedback from everyone.”

A total of £2,800 was raised from the event.

It will be divided equally between The Friends of St Peter’s Church, for its rebuilding project, and for hospice at home service The Rosemary Foundation.
