THE HUNT is on to find someone to turn on the Christmas lights in Petersfield town centre this year.

Organisers of the lights switch on event in the town on Friday, November 27, have decided to throw open the chance of being the person who flicks the switch on the festive display to the Petersfield public.

They want to find the person in the town who is most deserving of turning the Christmas lights on.

You could be someone who does a lot of community work, someone who has battled their way through adversity during 2015 or someone who has achieved something major since the turn of the year.

The Petersfield Post stepped in to ensure there would be a lights switch on event this year in the town.

Editor Graeme Moir said:?“Rather than hiring a celebrity to come and switch on the lights or picking an obvious local dignitary to do the job, we thought about opening this up to the public to nominate the person they think should switch on the lights on behalf of their town.

“I’m sure there are some very deserving people out there who should be given this honour of starting the countdown to Christmas in the town – all we need you to do is tell us who they are by nominating them.”

The person who is chosen to turn on the lights must be available on the evening of November 27. They will join mayor Lesley Farrow on stage in The Square as the crowds count down to the lights being switched on.

To nominate someone, all you need to do is write to us giving details of why they should be chosen and include both yours and their contact details. E-mail: graememoir@petersfield post.co.uk or drop your letter into our office at 33 High Street, Petersfield.
