A true-to-life-size 50ft inflatable sperm whale will wash up in Haslemere Educational Museum’s garden on Wednesday.

It is part of a series of cultural events supported by Waverley Borough Council this spring.

Families will be able to squeeze into the belly of the enormous whale where they find themselves in the depths of the bubbling, kelp-swirling ocean for this immersive theatrical experience.

With the use of puppets, comedy and music, theatre company Circo Rum Ba Ba explores the tale of sea creatures and their battle to survive in an ocean full of rubbish.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council’s portfolio holder for planning and economic development, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Circo Rum Ba Ba and their whale act to Haslemere Educational Museum.

“As a council with ambitious aims to become carbon-neutral by 2030, the environmental aspects of this event really resonate, and we hope families will visit to learn more about the impact of pollution in our oceans as well as the exciting experiencing of sitting inside a true-to-life-size whale.”

Councillor Townsend added: “As our town centres recover from the impact of the pandemic, it’s vital that we support the wider business network to encourage people back into our town centre with an array of cultural activities, events and markets.

“The whale visit is perfect timing for parents looking to entertain the kids this Easter break.”

Kay Topping, education officer at Haslemere Museum, said: “I’m really looking forward to this truly immersive theatre experience tackling the extremely important issue of plastic waste in the ocean. So pleased we can stage the whale in our garden!”

Performances will take place at midday, 12.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm, 4pm and 4.30pm. Advance booking is essential.

Tickets £2 members, £4 non-members. Book at www.haslemeremuseum.co.uk/whatson
