AN INJURED former soldier who has been on the road for more than three years photographing war memorials has visited Petersfield.
Mark Newton says he has also raised about £65,000 for Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
He left the Army in 1985 after being injured while training and since 2013 he has been touring the country on a modified mobility scooter towing a covered trailer in which he lives.
The 50-year-old former lance corporal said: “ I have spent about five weeks at home in Wales.
“The photographs go to the Imperial War Museum and I collect the money in a bucket on my scooter.”
The ex-Queens Dragoon Guard has also gained the UK record for the longest distance travelled on a mobility scooter after travelling around the coast of Britain.
Mark said: “Even with the trailer I can average around 40 miles a day. I shower at leisure centres and do my laundry in launderettes.
“Now I have been to Petersfield, I am going to Bordon, then Winchester and finally Gosport, and that’s every memorial in Hampshire photographed.
“I will keep going until I finish, or I can’t travel.”
