FANS of Irish folk music are spoilt for choice with both Grayshott and Hambledon folk clubs hosting renowned performers from Ireland.

From Northern Ireland, Connla, described as a young traditional Irish/Celtic Folk band are guests at Grayshott Village Hall today (Friday) after a previous appearance in September 2016.

They are described by club organiser Des O’Byrne as “the real deal”. The support act is Thom Ashworth, a young bass player and singer.

Tickets, £14 for adults, £7 for under-16s, are available from Des on 01428 607096.

Andy Irvine is one of the great Irish singers and has been hailed as “a tradition in himself”. He co-founded 1970s band Planxty and has maintained his highly individual performing skills throughout more than 50 years.

His intimate, clear vocals are supported by accomplished playing of a variety of instruments, chiefly bouzouki, mandola and harmonica. Andy has an impressive repertoire which includes Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dance tunes and compelling self-penned songs, both serious and humorous.

He will be at Hambledon Youth Hut next Wednesday (April 11) at 8.30pm. Entry is £10.
