Forget about the 12 days – how about the 12 years as a teenager’s annual appeal to help Petersfield’s less fortunate families at Christmas is underway.
Joe Tully is giving a Santa Claus a run for his money these days as the 16-year-old from Herne Farm has launched his 12th Petersfield Christmas Give Appeal.
The inspirational teenager was just four when he co-launched his first appeal to give Christmas presents and food to local families having a tough time.
But like Santa’s sleigh, he’s showing no signs of slowing down with plenty of toys, selection boxes, chocolates and goodies already donated. They will be distributed by The King’s Arms and HomeStart Butser with drop-off points at Jake’s Toys, Sage & Salt Studio, Clavio Lounge, The Dandy Cat and Free Shop Petersfield.
“I just really like doing it and helping people,” said Joe last Saturday after Greatham youngsters Noah and Ella dropped off some presents.

“I just think it’s important to help. We regularly get more than 100 presents donated every year.
Giving Trees have also been set up in Jake’s Toys, Clavio Lounge and by Chinwags in The Folly Market where you can buy a gift for a child named on a tag, while cash donations can also be made at Jake’s Toys.
“I think I’ll definitely do something but I’m not sure what or what form it will take,” said Joe on whether he would continue the annual event into his adult life.
“You always say that,” joked his mother, Julie, before adding that some people donate to his appeal every year.
She added: “The Petersfield community and the support we get every year is just amazing.”
Selection boxes, Christmas treats and new gifts and toys suitable for ages 0-16 are requested with donations being accepted until Saturday, December 20.
