THE first Manx Laoghtan lamb to be born at Butser Ancient Farm at Chalton arrived just as the Post was going to press

Tiffany Francis, along with the lambs mum, helped the new born feel at home on the farm, near Petersfield and Clanfield.

The Manx Loaghtan is a breed native to the Isle of Man, and descends from the primitive sheep once found throughout Scotland, the Hebrides, and Shetland Islands. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust lists the breed as being "at risk". By the 1950s there were only 43 surviving specimens, until Manx National Heritage developed two healthy flocks. These have given rise to commercial flocks on the Isle of Man and elsewhere.
