FOR the second year Langrish church has held a Sunday evening Songs of Praise and Celebration, attended by more than 50 people.

And following on last years’ service, which celebrated the restoration of the 100-year old organ in St John the Evangelist’s church, the organ was played by Philip Drew, 28 years as the Organ Advisor in the Portsmouth Diocese and now retired.

Gathered together were almost 50 members of the local community and congregation to sing along to a range of rousing hymns and listen to some superb organ pieces played by Philip. The very floorboards of the church were resonant with the tones of the organ.

Reverend Jane Ball was delighted at the service, which saw the congregation sing along to rousing hymns and listen to some superb organ pieces played by Philip.

She said: “It was a magnificent service and to have Philip play and stretch the organ to its limits was fantastic. The very floorboards of the church were resonant with the tones of the organ.

“I think everyone appreciated the organ being played in this way, but it takes nothing away from the team of organists who we have playing for us at regular services.”

There was a donation bar and refreshments at the interval, and a retiring collection was held at the end of the service which raised £595 for the church organ fund.

The next church event is the Christmas Fayre at Langrish House on Sunday, November 20, at 2pm. All welcome with plenty of festive fun, games and Christmas gifts.
