THE LAST bank branches in Whitehill and Bordon and in Grayshott are to close in the next six months.

Lloyds Banking Group has announced its branches at Camp Road, Bordon, and Headley Road, Grayshott, are for the chop as well as the branch of Halifax at High Street, Alton, which it also controls.

In a letter to East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds, the bank says that customers are using the branches less often because of changes in the way people handle their finances.

The Lloyds statement said: “We’re informing our colleagues in the branches today and we will be writing to customers shortly, so you may be approached about this by constituents, and we wanted to have briefed you in advance of that.

“The announcement is that we will be closing our Halifax branch in Alton on September 26, and our Lloyds Bank branches in Borden and Grayshott in your constituency on August 1 and October 10, 2017, respectively.

“We have made the difficult decision to close these branches. These branches have been identified for closure because of the changing way customers choose to bank with us, which has resulted in customers using it less often.

“Alternatives to the Alton branch are available at Farnham West Street and Basingstoke Wote Street and the local Post Office is a short distance away where customers can manage their day-to-day banking needs.

“Alternatives to the Bordon branch are available at Liphook and Farnham and an alternative to the Grayshott branch is at Haslemere. Both also have local Post Offices a short distance away where customers can manage their day-to-day banking needs.

“Customers of the Alton branch will have their accounts realigned to Basingstoke Wote Street around 11.94 miles away, and there will be no other impact on the way they manage their accounts.

“Customers of the Bordon branch will have their accounts realigned to Farnham around 7.2 miles away, and there will be no other impact on the way they manage their accounts. Customers of the Grayshott branch will have their accounts realigned to Haslemere around 3.49 miles away.”
