Community-minded residents can learn more about local volunteering opportunities during a special event in Petersfield this Saturday.

It’s great to give – just ask anyone involved in the Petersfield Volunteer Fair.

People who visit Winton House Centre garden and community café can meet representatives from a host of local charities, organisations and groups.

Residents can make connections, discover roles that suit their interests and skills and explore what volunteering opportunities are available locally.

The event, hosted by the WHC and HomeStart Butser and funded by UK Government via EHDC, will take place between 10am and 2pm with no booking necessary.

“We want to show the community just how many opportunities there are for volunteering locally,” said Nicola Winter, scheme manager at HSB.

“I think the premise is very powerful, just how much you can make a difference by volunteering.

“There’s a huge variety of different roles and places available – a really broad range – and it’s fascinating to learn what goes in communities and what’s being offered.”

People of all ages and skillsets should find something to suit with attending groups including the Friends of Petersfield Heath, PeCAN, The Kings Arms, Winton House Centre, Hampshire Libraries, Petersfield Society, HSB and many more.

“Volunteering is about more than giving your time,” said a spokesperson for the organisers.

“It’s about belonging, making connections and knowing that what you do matters.

“So come along to the Petersfield Volunteer Fair and discovery the many ways you can play your part. No matter who you are or what you’re interested in, you can make a difference.”

The fair is part of a month of volunteer festivals organised by EHDC, with similar events also taking place from 2.30pm to 6.30pm this Friday (September 25) in Merchistoun Hall, Horndean, and from 9am to 4pm this Saturday in Liss Royal British Legion.
